I saw a message thread on the Two Peas site the other day about embellishment sneeze. While most of my scrapbooking does not involve a lot of embellishments, I do enjoy going overboard with scrapbooking embellishments from time to time. IT. IS. FUN. Here's a video about how I use punches and die cuts to facilitate scrapbook embellishment sneezing:
For more on scrapbooking embellishments and techniques, check out these books:
This Basket contains Christmas scrapbooking mini books that are in progress - some of which I started in 1998!
Still in my December Daily Frenzy: I made a ustream video about the several Christmas Mini Books and December Daily type minibooks that I have started but not finished - and how I keep track of these in progress albums over the years and how one of my books is a 20 year project that I started in 1998. If you don't finish mini books - do not fret! It is ok to pick up where you left off last year - really - it is ok! I like to scrapbook Christmas during Christmas and most of the time when I put the Christmas decorations away I am also ready to stop scrapbooking Christmas so I put away the pictures and supplies too; I show how my system allows me to go into full effect with the Christmas scrapbooking when I am in the mood to do it - Tis the Season; but when it's over, its over and it is nice to have a system of being able to put unfinished projects away without feeling at all guilty about not finishing because there is always next year.
These are my punches - which are probably about 10 years old - and which I still use almost every time I scrap - the smaller circle is a bit tweaky - but I still recommend these basic and very useful and versatile tools - I used these punches to cut the circle numbers, cut the notches and round the corners of these Christmas Mini Books.
If you don't have circle punches or corner rounders that you love, check these out - I have the Fiskars one in a scallop circle - so the regular circle is on my Christmas list. I'm also linking some Chrismtas Paper Pads that are so useful in making the types of mini-books I love to make - I would love to buy more Christmas paper packs but I seriously have too many already, but if I needed some these are the ones I would get. I also happen to think you can never have enough 8x8 albums so I'm linking a few of those in Christmas styles and the very same CHRISTMAS MEMORIES BOOK that I started in 1998 and it will go through 2018! It is seriously awesome.
I couldn't find the exact 8x8 Chistmas Album that I have but if I were buying now, I might pick one of these (above); and that first red Christmas Memories Book by Lynn Anderson is the one I have, but the others look like they do the same type of thing and the Christmas Journal actually goes for 25 years! That is so cool!
I went into my scrapbooking room without a plan tonight and turned on the video cam and started a ustream video and created this page:
My ustream viewers even helped me with a few of the design choices for the page so that was fun audience participation and I liked their suggestions. Here's the video:
Journaling: "Me in the third grade. You in the third grade. I liked playing videos games just like you do now. Technology has changed a lot since then."
I'm loving this page and the way the patterns and colors remind me of my grandparents house in the 70s and how maybe my son will see how I was a bit like he was back in the day. Aahhh, connections.
I did an experiment with using Instant Inspiration to make a Scrapbook page, here's the page:
The Inspiration Sentence: "Be aware of patterns. Play with them."
I adapted that idea to using patterned paper in a quilting kind of way. The sticker quotes inspired the theme of the page.
Quotes: "Do What You Love & The Money Will Follow."
"The only true gift is a portion of yourself." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot." - D.H. Lawrence
Journaling: "I have always wanted to write a book and the older I get the more urgent this need becomes. And now the desire isn't just to write one book - but several - and different types. I love having a new idea - somthing that gets inside my brain, something that wakes me up early in the morning full of excitement. In the past, I've gotten started but then stopped by fear, doubt, angst, agony, but now - I'm ready to plow ahead despite those things & maybe to be ok with all that & to go forward anyway. Even if its hard. Even if it takes a long time. Sort of like my long journey to losing 50 pounds - I'm still headed there and I'm ok that its taking a long time and that its hard. And kind of like marriage. We're way past the new exciting time but it ebbs and flows and when you fully commit, sometimes what you get is more awesome than the newness thing. You get something that wasn't easy to get, something to be proud of."
Here's the Ustream showing how I came about making this page:
Here's my take on the Counterfeit Kit Club Challenge for June:
Here are some of the details:
The amazing thing about putting your own scrapbooking stash into a kit and photographing it is that it gives your old stuff the illusion of being new stuff and I'm always amazed to discover all the cute stuff I already own. It sort of makes me thing we (as in someone else - not me) should start the counterfeit fashion club so we could repurpose our old clothes and have "new" outfits - if anyone runs with this let me know because I'll be so on board with that. Ok, back to scrapbooking:
The BEST thing about the Counterfeit Kit Club Challenge is that I actually took my kit out of my scrapbooking room and put it on my cute little Ikea Cart and rolled it out into the dining room / family room (our entire first floor is an open floor plan so its like one gigantic room) so I could do scrapbooking while we watched the catastrophe of a show "The Bachelorette" - it is so horrible, but somehow we are still watching. So here's what my set up looked like (and yes that is a princess tent on the left - and no, that's not the only tent we have in the living room - we also have a boy's tent set up - it's almost summer after all) :
Isn't Dandy Boy the cutest?
Ok so the other best part of having a scrapbooking kit, bringing it out to the family room and not letting myself go back to the scrapbooking room for more stuff ? I got 4 pages done in 2 hours! I'll post those tomorow.
Where do you scrapbook? Do you get more done at home or at a crop? I have a scrapbooking room that my 7 year old daughter and the rest of the family have full access to; but lately I've been wanting to come out of the room and back into the family space. Nancy Nally talks about how she did this on The Paperclipping Roundtable Podcast #70 "Non-crappy shared scrap spaces."
I recorded my first ustream video - and I don't think the sound worked! So there's a tricky learning curve there. I'll get it. Do me a favor and click the link here: Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking on Ustream and leave a comment here or there just to make sure you can get to my ustream channel. Thank you!
I did make this simple scrapbook page (about my daughter's favorite Halloween trick) during the video:
Journaling reads: "Every year we buy a costume at the store a month or so before Halloween & every year Ally wears it non-stop right up until the moment before we go trick or treating & at the last minute she changes her mind & wears a completely different costume! Pirate at 5 2009; Batty at 4 2008; Love Mommy 2010."
I'll figure out how to make ustream work, stay tuned, it was kind of fun - even without anyone in the chat - I can imagine that it will be lots more fun with someone to talk to. I'm probably going to do some more test runs before actually having a show scheduled, I'll keep you posted.
Its About Time! Its been since 2007 since I've made any scrapbooking videos - I've got several up on youtube . The issue I had with youtube is that the videos are better if they are shorter. I like the idea of ustream and an hour long. I haven't decided on the time yet, but I do have lots of ideas for the show. So, as soon as I can get Charlie to hook me up with a video set up in my scrapbooking room - I'll start rolling.
Charlie is working on getting the video online and he wanted me to see it. But here's the thing / I'm fine with recording the videos but I can't stand to watch myself! So YOU will be able to see the videos very soon, but I'm not sure IWILL!
Charlie and I started filming this morning!!! We did it like the Ramones used to record songs - one take and less than a minute each! There's a concept - Punk Rock Scrapbooking!!!
But seriously, Charlie wanted to practice editing and uploading video and he wanted me to practice in front of the camera. I did it from the hip, unrehearsed, and I thought of topics literally about 20 seconds before he said action. We hope to have these up onYou Tube later today!I'm going to be talking way too fast (because I was so excited!) and maybe I'll ramble a bit, but I talk about SCRAPBOOKING! And that is SO MUCH FUN! So stayed tuned & hopefully we'll have the link up & the videos ready to watch by the end of the day!
I talked with a friend of mine today who does entertainment law and he said that I can just put a TM behind the "Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking" and its called a Common Law Trademark and I can use that until I get a Federal Trademark.
But then he said something else: He asked if I was sure I wanted to use a company name versus my own name. He said I might want to just be Katie Scott Scrapbooking instead of Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking.
What do you think??? Leave a comment and let me know! Thanks!
I got my first look at the studio! Charlie did A LOT of work over the Labor Day Weekend (I guess that was accurately named huh?!). I am so excited to start filming. Charlie and I need to go out to buy the set (bookshelves & a workspace) and then all we need to do it set up the tri pods and start filming!!!!!!!
Also wanted to give a shout out to my little sister Jenny!!! She called from Missouri last night (I keep telling her to go hunt down Elsie Flannigan & Make friends with her but I don't think she's done that yet). Anyway, Jenny saw the blog and asked for more pictures, so here they are Jen! Also, a couple of things about Jenny: 1. She's always thought scrapbooking was kinda, well, not so great; but recently she told me she's thinking of starting - YAY JENNY! DON'T WORRY, SCRAPBOOKING CAN BE COOL - I PROMISE! 2. Jenny is a massage therapist and she's great, so Jenny, leave a comment with all of your contact information & if you live in Springfield Missouri then be sure to schedule a massage w/ Jenny. And Elsie F. - if you are reading this & want a massage - then please leave a comment & I will personally pay Jenny to give you a massage!
Here are some pics of Jenny & I when we were little and a drawing of one of our great great grandfathers on the Fenderson side). Maybe you'll see these in future Kiss & Tell Scrapbooking Videos!!!
